The Arava desert is an oasis of sun and blue skies, almost all year round. Yet during the winter, there are cloudy days, and even sometimes clouds heavy with rain, hanging purple and black over the desert expanse. This is when we see a new face of the desert – and it is a most fascinating sight. As a nature lover and photographer, the winter is my favorite season, as the acacia trees sprout rich green foliage and the colorful wildflowers bloom from the earth after the first rains. The soft light and cloudy skies, the distant mountains and the vast desert plains create breathtaking moments of contrast.
